Four does not go into three and so one All Blacks midfield contender stands to be left disappointed in Durban.
Ryan Crotty continues to consistently produce the goods at second five‑eighth; George Moala is ready to return from injury and needs another crack.
And during his standout effort in Argentina last week, Anton Lienert‑Brown booted down the selectors’ door to shout “pick me”.
After all the accolades, Lienert‑Brown must this week convince he’s capable of putting that behind him and keeping his feet on the ground.
Lienert‑Brown made the complex role, with its vast variety of required skills look natural for the most part last week.
Defensively there’s nothing separating him and Malakai Fekitoa, who was rock solid in that area in his six Test starts this season.
The All Blacks will take on the Springboks at 3.05am Sunday while Wallabies will face the Pumas at 6.30am.
