Kwong and Waqainabete competing in 100 metres Backstroke at World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championship tonight

Two out of the four swimmers representing Fiji at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championship in Otopeni, Romania, will be taking part in their events tonight.

Thaddeus Kwong will be swimming in the 100 metres Backstroke while Eden Waqainabete will take part in the 100 metres Women’s Backstroke.

Fiji Swimming says this event serves as both preparation and a stepping stone for these young athletes as they aim for the Olympic Youth Games and Commonwealth Games next year.

They say gaining this experience and international exposure is crucial for their development.

Tomorrow, the whole team will be competing with Jonalese Vatubua in the Women’s 100m Freestyle before the whole team takes part in the - Mixed 4 x 100 Medley Relay where Waqainabete will take the Backstroke portion, Kwong the Breaststroke, Reuben Taylor the Butterfly and Jonalese Vatubua in the Freestyle.

The four are accompanied by their manager and coach, Cheyenne Rova, along with technical official Susau Elaisa.
