FIJI Water Flying Fijians half-back Simione Kuruvoli says he thought he would miss selection for the Flying Fijians squad after his injury earlier this year but he counts himself fortunate because sitting on the sideline during the Super Rugby Pacific gave him a boost to increase his work rate in the gym and recover fast.

Kuruvoli says he thanks the coaches for having that trust in him joining the Flying Fijians.

He says while he was cleared to return back on the field, he did not have any hopes of making it into the Flying Fijians squad due to zero games this season.

Kuruvoli says he was very happy and at the same time emotional because when he got injured earlier this year he thought he would miss the selection for Flying Fijians.

He says he actually never thought about Flying Fijians because he had to focus on his rehab.

The former Lelean Memorial School student says mentally being in rehab is one of the toughest things for any player because you are left out and all attention is on the team but that is what pushed him to do his rehab well and be ready before time.

He further says even though the surgeons said that he will be out for 6 to 7 months but in his head, he knew he can do it within five months and he did it.

Kuruvoli further says his son was the main motivating factor that pushed him to work hard every day. He says it was great to get game time against Samoa last weekend and he is looking forward to giving his best shot against Japan tonight.

Kuruvoli says it was great to don the white jersey and play and it was actually, his first win to start with.

He adds the key thing here is consistency and he is going to keep pushing himself.

The Flying Fijians will take on Japan in Tokyo at 10.15 tonight.
