It was an emotional day for the Kadavu Women’s Rugby team as they secured a hard-fought 29–26 victory over Naitasiri in the final 9 round of the Subrails Marama Cup — a win deeply dedicated to one of their own.

While speaking to fijivillage Sports Assistant Manager, Evisake Banivalu says that just hours before kickoff, Kadavu centre Matelita Numia received devastating news that her father had passed away.

Banivalu says despite the heartbreak, Numia showed up, laced her boots, and played with quiet strength and courage.

She adds that Numia’s resilience became the emotional heartbeat of the team’s performance, inspiring her teammates to play not just for the scoreboard, but for something far greater.

She says that the game itself was no easy battle and both sides fought hard, but Kadavu’s determination and teamwork carried them through to a narrow but decisive win.

Banivalu praises the players’ commitment, acknowledging that the team’s strength lies not only in skill but in their unity and spirit.

As the team looks ahead to the quarter-finals next week, Banivalu notes areas for improvement, including the need to work on their lineup and coordination between the forward and backline.

She says despite the challenges on and off the field, the Kadavu women remain grounded in gratitude.

Banivalu expresses heartfelt thanks to all the families, friends, and supporters who continue to stand behind the team.
