A re-match with Anthony Joshua, eight years since their world title fight in Cardiff, is increasingly on the cards for Joseph Parker, as his manager expects Parker to fight again for a world title within a year.

Parker’s manager, David Higgins, told Stuff.co.nz that they genuinely believe he will be world champion again next year at the latest.

Higgins is awaiting the outcome of Sunday’s titanic world title unification fight at Wembley between Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk for the IBF, IBO, WBC and WBA versions of the crown.

Dubois holds the IBF title, and Usyk holds the other three.

Parker is the mandatory challenger for the WBO belt and so can demand a mandatory challenge against whoever wins - or that they vacate the title, allowing him to fight another contender.

Higgins has signed a two-fight deal with veteran British promoter Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, and indicated a fight at Wembley was a likely option.

But he wouldn’t discount taking the millions available to fight in Saudi Arabia should they be on offer again.

Higgins says Parker would happily fight either Dubois or Usyk for a title if he could, but would equally, if a title was vacated, take on Joshua or Dereck Chisora.
