New Zealand have held off a late England fightback to start of their Four Nations Title defence with a narrow 17‑16 win in Huddersfield.
After their disappointing loss to Australia, Kiwi's coach David Kidwell had stressed the importance of good decision‑making on the last tackle.
England's Sam Burgess' forward pass and Widdop's drop‑goal attempt both missed their intended targets as the Kiwis held on to open their title defence with a hard‑fought win.
