The Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships is just s stepping stone for athletes, on their way to the Olympics and other world tournaments.

This was stated by the Secretary of the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships Mike Unger, at the official opening last night.

President of Fiji Swimming Ben Rova says that this year’s competition will help prepare Fiji swimmers to the 2019 Pacific Games and the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Chief Guest, Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Iliesa Delana says the hosting of the Junior Pan Pacific and the successful hosting of the 2016 Oceania Swimming Championships is in line with Fiji Swimming’s Strategic Plan to host an international competition every 2 years.

Delana encourages parents to introduce their children to swimming as it is one of the most popular sports around the world, it is also a lifesaving skill, a great way to keep fit, stay healthy and make friends.

36 swimmers from Fiji will take part in the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championship.

250 swimmers from 11 countries including USA, Canada, Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are taking part in the championship that will begin today.

The swimming championship starts at 9am today with the 200 metres freestyle heats.
