Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is set to gamble with inexperienced New Zealand‑born first‑five Joey Carbery on the bench as he looks to halt the All Blacks' record run in Chicago on Sunday.
21-year-old Carbery, has just nine Leinster appearances to his name but is likely to deputise for Jonathan Sexton following Paddy Jackson's withdrawal from the Ireland squad due to personal reasons.
International selection would cap a remarkable rise for the Auckland born, who moved to the Irish town of Athy at the age of 11 and was picked up by the Leinster academy after a stellar schoolboy career.
His selection adds to Ireland's strong Kiwi ties, with Schmidt and centre Jared Payne both from New Zealand as Ireland attempt to deny the All Blacks a 19th consecutive test victory.
The All Blacks will play Ireland at 9am this Sunday.
Wales will play Australia at 3.30am Sunday while the Barbarians play South Africa at 4am Sunday.
