India defeat Pakistan by six wickets in tense Asia Cup clash

India secured a six-wicket win over Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four match in Dubai, extending their unbeaten streak against Pakistan to seven matches across formats.

The match was marked by tension, with no handshakes at the toss or after the game, reflecting ongoing political strains.

India chased down a target of 172 with seven balls to spare, thanks to strong performances from opener Abhishek Sharma, who scored 74 off 39 balls, and Shubman Gill, who made 47.

Their opening partnership of 105 runs in just 59 balls laid the foundation for the chase.

Tilak Varma sealed the victory with a six, finishing 30 not out.

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan scored 58, but despite a strong start, Pakistan lost momentum in the middle overs.

India’s Shivam Dube took 2 wickets for 33 runs.

Several heated moments occurred during the match, including an umpire intervening between Sharma and Pakistan’s Haris Rauf.

Unlike after last week’s meeting, when captain Suryakumar Yadav paid tribute to India’s armed forces, neither he nor Pakistan captain Salman Agha referenced the wider situation during the post-match presentation.

Pakistan play Sri Lanka on Wednesday, while India’s next game is against Bangladesh on Thursday.
