The Hurricanes held on to beat the Waratahs 38‑28 in their Super Rugby clash in Wellington last night after first‑five Beauden Barrett was red‑carded in the second half.
Barrett scored a try but was sent off in the 60th minute for receiving two yellow cards for deliberately knocking the ball down.
The Waratahs trailed 33‑7 at the break while quick tries to stand‑in fullback Bryce Hegarty and halfback Jake Gordon early in the second half pulled the Waratahs to within 10 points at Westpac Stadium.
The defeat left Australian sides none from twelve against Kiwi opposition this year.
Conceding five tries, the Waratahs trailed by 26 points at halftime after Ngani Laumape, brothers Beauden and Jordie Barrett, Wes Goosen and Mark Abbott all crossed for tries.
The Waratahs were once again their own worst enemies; dreadful in defence as they missed 27 tackles and were punished repeatedly for dashing out of the line trying to contain the competition's most potent attacking team.
Barrett was red‑carded after committing another professional foul late in the match.
The Bulls will meet the Sunwolves at 5.15 this afternoon, the Highlanders clash with the Blues at 7.35pm while the Brumbies meet the Reds at 9.45 tonight.
