Hughes says playing for England over Fiji was not a hard decision

Fiji born England rugby player Nathan Hughes says choosing to play for Eddie Jones’ side over Fiji was not the hardest decision.

The 25‑year‑old made his England debut from the bench during last week’s 37‑21 victory over South Africa.

Having been at Premiership side Wasps since 2013, the former Saint Thomas High School student qualified for England via the three‑year residency rule.

Hughes says he has no qualms and can say England is his home now and he feels English because he has played for his country.

He says it is the thing that provides his food and shelter, and why not play for the country that he lives in.

He has denied his decision was financially motivated.

A new 20 million pound deal will see England players receive more than 20,000 pounds per test match, excluding bonuses, while Fiji’s squad are paid 60 pounds a day.

England will play the Flying Fijians at 3.30am this Sunday.
