Former Fiji 7s player Jarryd Hayne has touched down in Sydney Airport this morning after his trip to Tel Aviv, but it wasn’t the hero’s entrance he would normally have made.
The 29‑year‑old was instead ushered out the side of the airport by federal police to avoid the waiting media crews.
The former Parramatta Eels star was led through the media exit of the international terminal with his bodyguard by Australian Federal Police and was placed into a car.
NRL’s gender adviser Professor Catharine Lumby told The Sunday Telegraph this week that Hayne should step aside from rugby league until sexual assault allegations against him, which he vigorously denies, are dealt with in an American civil court.
The NRL integrity unit is set to question Hayne after the Parramatta Eels claimed they knew nothing of the rape allegations until they were made public in Californian civil court documents this week.
