South Africa coach Neil Powell has made two changes to his 13‑man squad to contest the Hong Kong Sevens after ruling out both Justin Geduld and Rosko Specman through injury.
Tim Agaba returns to the squad after recovering from an ankle injury and will replace the injured Stephan Dippenaar.
South Africa are currently sitting top of the series standings with 126 points, having made every final in 2016‑17 and won four of them.
However, having finished as runners‑up in the past four series, Powell is keen to keep his side grounded heading into Hong Kong.
South Africa will face Kenya, France and Canada in Pool B, while Fiji is pooled with New Zealand, Wales and Japan.
Fiji will play their first game against Japan at 11.54pm next Friday, they will take on Wales at 5.12pm next Saturday while Fiji plays NZ in their final pool match at 9.12pm next Saturday.
South Africa squad: Chris Dry, Philip Snyman (captain), Dylan Sage, Zain Davids, Werner Kok, Siviwe Soyizwapi, Branco du Preez, Tim Agaba, Selvyn Davids, Cecil Afrika, Stedman Gans, Ruhan Nel, Ryan Oosthuizen.
