Fiji’s tourism boosted by World Surf League Corona Pro – Viliame Gavoka

Fiji has reaped significant benefits from the World Surf League Corona Fiji Pro, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors, setting a new standard for international events in the country and contributing notably to various areas of the economy.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, shared this update while addressing Parliament regarding the World Surf League Corona Fiji Pro held at Cloudbreak, Tavarua.

Gavoka highlighted the extensive media coverage during the championship, including live broadcasts and media engagement, showcased not only the event but also Fiji's natural beauty and world-class surfing to millions of viewers worldwide.

He further reported that the event delivered over $255,000 in media planning for Fiji's tourism and achieved 23,000 global public relations hits, with an advertising value equivalent to $54.4 million across 36 countries.

Gavoka adds that the event also contributed to job creation and skill development, providing not only temporary employment but also long-term benefits in building local expertise.

He emphasised that the event has demonstrated Fiji's ability to host world-class events, positioning the nation as a premier destination for sports tourism.
