Vodafone Flying Fijians coach John McKee says the inclusion of a Fijian team in the Australian National Rugby Competition will open doors for bigger events including Tests or potentially a Super Rugby licence.
He says this will now attract higher profile teams to come and play in Fiji.
McKee says hopefully sometime in the future the Super Rugby landscape could change and if there is an opening for a Pacific Islander team then Fiji would be in the right position to join.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has announced that Fiji will play in Australia's National Rugby Championship next year.
Fiji will be the 9th team in the tournament, which starts from August 2017.
Fiji will be playing four away games in Australia and more importantly, there will be four home games in Fiji.
