Fijian Drua Women: Matarugu surprised to be named captain while Naikore is vice captain

Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s Captain Vika Matarugu attributes the hard work that she has put in during the pre-season as the reason she was called to lead the side.

Matarugu says she was quite surprised when her name was announced to captain the team for the season.

She says she is grateful to coach Ifereimi Rawaqa and the management team for their faith and belief in her.

Vice Captain Vitalina Naikore says her mind was blown when her name was called out as this is the first time for her to hold this role.

Naikore says she believes the team can work together to achieve their goals this season.

Matarugu says as leaders they cannot do everything by themselves which is why they are thankful for the team’s backing.

She says they are also thankful for the help and advice from former captains Bitila Tawake and Karalaini Naisewa.

The Drua women play defending Super W champions the Waratahs at 5.05pm at Allianz Stadium before the Drua men face the Waratahs at 8.35pm Friday.
