2016 was the first time since 2011, that the Vodafone Fiji 7s team did not win a title in the opening round of the World 7s series.
Fiji won three Gold Coast Sevens and two Dubai Sevens titles between 2011 and 2015.
The task for the series defending champions to win the first tournament of 2017 does not get any easier as Fiji is in the pool of death at the Wellington 7's, with series leaders South Africa, Australia and the ever improving Japan.
Coach, Gareth Baber knows the task at hand and what he has to do to get Fiji's first title in Wellington since 2010.
Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fiji 7's players went through their gym and pool session this morning and will have a scrimmage session with England at 5 this afternoon.
Fiji will play Australia in their first pool match at 10.46am on Saturday before facing Japan at 2.10pm while Fiji’s last pool match will be against South Africa at 6.18pm.
The medal quarterfinals will begin at 11.38am Sunday while the semifinals will begin at 4.16pm.
The medal final will be held at 7.30pm Sunday.
