The USA Rugby League side is about to face the toughest aerial assignment with the Vodafone Fiji Bati ready to unleash Melbourne Storm winger Suliasi Vunivalu with a barrage of high balls in the Rugby League World Cup tonight.
Jarryd Hayne and Vunivalu linked up during the Bati’s training session yesterday where Hayne booted a series of pinpoint cross kicks at Vunivalu.
Fiji’s coach Mick Potter says it was no secret his game‑plan is to launch high balls on USA tonight and while Fiji’s Marcelo Montoya will be a threat down the left side, it’s Vunivalu who will be the main weapon on the right.
Bati’s captain Kevin Naiqama says the Hayne and Vunivalu combination could be their biggest attacking asset.
USA’s coach Brian McDermott says that the team is ready to take on the Bati.
In today’s matches, PNG will face Wales at 5pm, New Zealand will take on Samoa at 7.10pm and the Vodafone Fiji Bati will face USA at 9.40pm.
Meanwhile, the Australian Kangaroos have shaken off a rusty start to open their Rugby League World Cup defence with a gritty 18‑4 win over England last night.
