The Fiji Airways men’s and women’s national 7s teams are urging all Fijians to take time out and get vaccinated to help the Fijian Government and the Ministry of Health fight against the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Players plus the management received their second jab of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine yesterday at their hotel in Brisbane ahead of the PacificAus Sports Oceania 7s this Friday.

Fiji Rugby CEO John O’Connor thanked the Queensland Government and the Health Department for assisting the team in getting their second jab.

Coach Gareth Baber says after undergoing six COVID-19 negative tests it was important for them to be fully vaccinated.

The Fiji men’s 7s team will return to action after more than a year when we take on Australia at 4pm this Friday in the Oceania 7’s.

Fiji will then face Oceania 7s team at 9.30pm on the same day.

The national side has two more games on Saturday where they take on the All Blacks 7s team at 4.22pm and Australia at 9.30pm.

Fiji has two games on Sunday as well.

They take on Oceania 7s team at 2.30pm and New Zealand at 8.07pm.

There are six rounds of matches in the Oceania 7s where each team will play each other twice.

The highest-ranked team after six matches will be declared the winner.

Fiji last played in an international tournament in last year’s Vancouver 7s in March where they were beaten by New Zealand in the quarterfinal.
