As we enter the new HSBC 7s Series from next Friday, discipline will be one key area for Fiji as we aim to win the Dubai 7s and defend our 7s series title.
According to the HSBC Sevens Series statistics, Fiji received 26 yellow cards which were the most of any team and 2 red cards which were the joint highest last season.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year, Meli Derenalagi got five yellow cards which were the most of any player.
Coach, Gareth Baber says they continue to educate players on why they get yellow cards.
Baber says they have analyzed their discipline from the Oceania 7s and giving data like that to the players is important.
The team departs for Dubai today.
Fiji is pooled with Japan, France and Argentina for the Dubai 7s.
Fiji’s first pool match is against Japan at 4.02am next Friday, Fiji will then take on Argentina at 10.04pm the same night and they will face France in their last match at 4.02am next Saturday.
The quarterfinals will be held at 8.14pm next Saturday, the semifinals will be at 12am next Sunday while the final will be at 4.02am next Sunday.
Barring any upsets, Fiji is likely to meet South Africa, England or Kenya in the quarter-final, they can face South Africa or France in the semi-final and is likely to meet New Zealand or the USA in the final of the Dubai 7s.
