Crusaders face daunting task to end title drought

Crusaders captain Sam Whitelock and his men could not have picked a more daunting destination than Johannesburg to break their Super Rugby title drought.

Not since 2008, when coach Robbie Deans and captain Richie McCaw guided them to a seventh title with a 20‑12 win over the Waratahs in the final, have the Crusaders jammed a sword in the soil to confirm they are the kings of the southern hemisphere competition.

Tomorrow morning the Crusaders will march into the Lion's noisy den at Ellis Park, where a sell‑out crowd in the famous ground is sure to offer advice about their chances of winning this final at 1700 metres above sea level.

If the Crusaders beat the Lions they will become the first New Zealand side to win a final in South Africa.

Coach Scott Robertson says when you hear there are going to be 62,000 people at Ellis Park you know you are in for a big one.

He says people will buy into the emotion and you know it is going to be a big occasion and they are well aware of what is ahead of them.

The Lions will face the Crusaders at 2am tomorrow in the Super Rugby Final.
