North Queensland Cowboys playmaker Johnathan Thurston has demanded the NRL to sin‑bin defenders who hit vulnerable playmakers after they pass the ball.
Canberra forward Sia Soliola's late hit on Billy Slater ‑ which knocked the Melbourne fullback out for 2‑3 minutes last week ‑ has put the worrying issue back under the NRL's spotlight.
Thurston says the NRL could definitely do much more to protect smaller playmakers.
Round 22 of the NRL will kick off on Thursday when the Cowboys meet the Paramatta Eels at 9.50pm.
