Carter to be possible option for Mackenzie loss

Carter to be possible option for Mackenzie loss

World Cup‑winning coach Sir Graham Henry has thrown up a possible selection shock for the All Blacks defence of the Webb Ellis Cup.

Henry who coached the All Blacks to World Cup glory in 2011, has claimed former test star Dan Carter could be a possible option for this year's World Cup in Japan.

The All Blacks are in need of a first five following Damian McKenzie suffering a season‑ending knee injury.

Speaking to Newstalk ZB, Henry said Carter could be a possible replacement for McKenzie ‑ who has suffered a ruptured ACL in his knee.

Dan Carter has won two World Cups with the All Blacks.

Henry said he doesn’t think Dan Carter will let you down.

But calling up Carter who turned 37 last month, seems unlikely given he recently failed a medical to re‑join French club Racing 92.

He underwent neck surgery earlier this month and is not due to play for the Kolebco Steelers again until January.

In Super Rugby this week, the Crusaders meet the Lions in Christchurch at 7.35pm Friday and the Highlanders meet the Sunwolves at 10pm Friday.

The Hurricanes meet the Chiefs at 7.35pm Saturday in Wellington while the Sharks meet the Waratahs at 9.45pm Saturday in Sydney.
