With one more day to go for the 2016 Oceania 7s tournament, the 10 men’s captains and seven women’s captains assembled at the Oceania Center at the University of the South Pacific to launch the tournament this weekend.
Oceania Rugby Tournament Manager Wayne Schuster says they are looking forward to the weekend with both the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Gold Medalists participating.
Meanwhile the Australian Men’s and Women’s teams held a rugby clinic at Veiuto Primary School this morning.
Australian Men’s captain John Porch says with 12 players joining other clubs next season, this will be a huge developing year for them.
Coach Andy Friend says he wants to test his young development side against Samoa and Fiji.
Friend says there are five contracted players in his new look team which has players who are all fighting for a spot in the World Sevens Series squad.
The Australian 7s team is highly rated as they defeated local sevens giants Uluinakau at the Central Coast 7s.
Australia is in Pool B with Samoa, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.
The Oceania 7s will start at 8am Friday and end on Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
