New Zealand 7s interim coach, Tomasi Cama Junior has promised they will be a better team in Cape Town after his “under‑prepared” team was thrashed 40‑0 in the Dubai Sevens quarterfinals by eventual champions South Africa.
The 12‑time World Sevens Series champions also lost their final match 20‑12 to Australia in the fifth place match to finish seventh after two wins and three defeats.
Cama believes lack of preparation was a factor in the lackluster start to the post‑Sir Gordon Tietjens coaching era.
New Zealand is in a tough pool in Cape Town with England, Argentina and Canada.
