Baber admits poor defence and discipline cost Fiji the Dubai 7s

Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach, Gareth Baber has admitted that poor defence and discipline had cost them the Dubai 7s tournament last weekend.

Baber has been working tirelessly to get in the defensive structure right for the national side as they approach the South Africa 7s this weekend.

He believes that communication is vital and the players have been reminded to be focused on their defence and to work together.

Baber also says that Apisai Domolailai sustained a knee injury in Dubai but is progressing well and will be back to play this weekend.

He says there are no other injury concerns in the team.

England are the defending champions of the South Africa 7s.

Fiji will play Wales at 9.37pm Saturday, they will then meet Canada at 12.58am Sunday before taking on Samoa at 4.19am Sunday.

Barring any upsets, Fiji is likely to meet Kenya or France in the quarter finals, New Zealand or Argentina in the semis, England or South Africa in the final.

The quarterfinals will start at 11.04pm Sunday, semifinals at 3.34am next Monday while the final will be held at 6.44am next Monday.

Looking at the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series points table, South Africa is leading with 22 points, New Zealand is in second place with 19 points, England is in third place with 17 points while Fiji is in fourth place with 15 points.
