It was a heartbreaking loss for the Australian Women’s football side after losing 3-1 to the European champions England in the second semi final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup last night in Sydney.

The Matildas made all attempts to create history but England stood their ground to deny the co-host an appearance in the final.

England now has created history by being the first English women’s football team to reach the World Cup final for the first time since 1966.

Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo scored for England while Sam Kerr scored for Australia.

The game went into halftime with England holding a slight 1-0 lead.

England will now face Spain in the final this Sunday at 10pm.
