Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua player, Asinate Serevi

Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua player, Asinate Serevi says she knew the expectations that would come with her name when she started playing rugby but she is building her own legacy.

While speaking during a panel discussion organised by the Fijian Media Association's Women in Media, Serevi who is the youngest daughter of sevens legend, Waisale Serevi, says she also looks up to her mother.

She says her mother has worked hard in the army as a lab technician, a field dominated by men.

Serevi says going in a field that was dominated by men was a huge challenge for her but it also encouraged her to show the world that women are also able to step up and be involved in that and succeed.

She further says that if you are given an opportunity then just go for it.

She further says you should finish school, make the most of the opportunity you have as you are not going to be playing rugby for the rest of your life.

Serevi says men get professional contracts after high school if they need to but women do not get that many opportunities.

She says one of the biggest encouragement she got was from her mother who had a job and her father who played rugby but also had a job.

She says she can go back and work in healthcare and adds she made sure she got a degree and has work when she finishes off from rugby.
