All Blacks winger Emoni Narawa ruled out for the year after puncturing lung against Springboks

Fiji born All Black Emoni Narawa will miss the rest of the season after puncturing a lung in last month’s win over the Springboks at Eden Park.

The 26-year-old winger suffered the grisly injury in the fifth minute of the Rugby Championship match in Auckland in a full-blooded contest for a high kick with South Africa’s Handrè Pollard.

The raised right knee of the veteran Springboks No 10 struck Narawa’s upper torso and left him in agony on the ground.

Narawa walked off the field in obvious discomfort and didn’t return as the All Blacks won 24-17.

An All Blacks spokesperson confirmed to Stuff.co today that Narawa suffered a lung puncture, although X-rays showed that resolved within days and there were no ongoing issues or concerns, and he is expected to make a full recovery for next season.

After the nasty injury in Ardie Savea’s 100th test when the All Blacks maintained their 31-year unbeaten streak at Eden Park against the world champions, Narawa said it was “just a little hiccup”.

The All Blacks now turn their focus to their Autumn Tour where they will Ireland play at Soldier Field, Chicago on November 7th.

They then play Scotland, England and Wales in the following weeks.
