539 athletes from 47 schools taking part in the National Schools Swimming Championships 2023

There are 539 athletes from 47 schools taking part in the National Schools Swimming Championships 2023.

Fiji National Schools Swimming Association President, Patrick Bower stated this adding it is a very considerable number of athletes taking part in the 2 day event.

Bower says it is a very special event with students coming in from all around Fiji to pit their skills against each other, especially when there are so many cases of drowning around the country.

Today’s events will end at 6 this evening.

In the Girls 9-year-old 50 metres Backstroke event Samoa’ana Powell of Drasa Avenue School came first with a time of 50.09 seconds, second with a time of 51.45 seconds is Michelle Chute of Nehru Memorial Primary School and third with a time of 56.46 seconds is Katarina Wedlock of Saint Thomas Primary.

In the Boys 10-year-old Backstroke event, Baravi Dunn of International School Nadi Primary won with a time of 48.40 seconds, Chanhee Hwang of American International Christian School came second while Anetekini Croker of Veiuto Primary School was third.

In the Girls 12-year-old Backstroke event, Marian Qoro of Nawaka District School won with a time of 41.61 seconds, Charlotte Bovoro of Nadi Airport School came second while Havana Kurop of International School Nadi settled for third.

In the Boys 13-year-old 50 metre Backstroke Thaddeus Kwong finished with a time of 31.59 seconds, Lepani Maiwiriwiri of Marist Brothers High School came second while Israel Lanyon of Nadi Airport School came 3rd.

In the Boys 14-year-old 50 metre Backstroke Jacob Rova of Swamy Vivekananda College finished first with a time of 35.04 seconds, Lorenzo Aisake of Tilak High School came second with a time of 35.68 seconds and Tommy Underwood also of Tilak High came third.
