Fiji born Sunwolves winger Semisi Masirewa was the hero of the night after he scored a hat-trick to help his side thump the Waratahs 31‑29 in Round 7 of the Super Rugby competition last night.

A week after ending the record‑setting 19‑match winning streak of the mighty Crusaders, the Waratahs slumped to a shock loss to the bottom‑placed and soon‑to‑be extinct Sunwolves.

The Tokyo‑based franchise piled on four tries in 20 minutes either side of halftime to stun the Waratahs after trailing 12‑3 early on at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium.

The highlight of the game was when the Waratahs’ five‑eighth Mack Mason threw a wild pass on the halfway line that Masirewa scooped up before racing 40m for his third try that gifted the Sunwolves the ultimately match‑winning nine‑point buffer.

In another match the Crusaders crushed the Hurricanes 32‑8 at Westpac Stadium in Wellington last night.

They led 17-8 at halftime.

Tonight the Blues take on the Stormers at 6.35pm, the Reds will meet the Rebels at 8.45pm and tomorrow, the Sharks will play the Bulls at 1.05am while the Jaguares host the Chiefs at 9.40am.
