More than 1,600 suspected marijuana plants discovered in Northern Division, police continue nationwide drug operations
More than 1,600 plants believed to be marijuana have been discovered in two separate farming areas in the Northern Division as police continue operations targeting suspected drug-related activities across Fiji’s five policing divisions.

Police say a farm containing more than 1,500 plants believed to be marijuana was discovered earlier this week in the Vesivuru farming area in Lea.

In a separate operation, a team from Tukavesi conducting a mop-up exercise in the Nawi farming area discovered another farm containing more than 100 plants believed to be marijuana.

Police say a 38-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the farm, was arrested and taken into custody.

The mop-up exercises involved revisiting areas known for drug cultivation and resulted in further seizures.

Meanwhile, in Labasa, Police say a hotel employee discovered white substances suspected to be illicit drugs in a hotel room.

The substances were handed over to Police and have been sent for analysis.

In the Western Division, a joint raid conducted by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and Namaka Police resulted in the seizure of a large amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime, along with equipment suspected to have been used in drug distribution.

Police say two men were also arrested at a residence in Sabeto as investigations continue.

In the Eastern Division, a man and a woman were arrested in Levuka for alleged unlawful possession of marijuana.

They also face an additional charge of allegedly resisting arrest.

In the Southern Division, a 19-year-old man was arrested along Gaji Road after he was allegedly found in possession of a zip-lock bag containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Meanwhile, Police are urging members of the public to immediately report any parcels suspected to contain illicit substances.

A parcel containing white substances was discovered yesterday along the seashore in Dakuinuku Village and handed over to Police.

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities by calling 1681 or sending photos and videos via WhatsApp or Viber to 9905922.

Police are also reminding people not to handle suspicious packages and to alert authorities as soon as possible.
