Emergency water supplies are being transported to Malau, Vanua Levu, and Cikobia as communities continue to face dry conditions and water shortages.

A vessel has departed Suva for Malau before proceeding to Cikobia to deliver the much-needed water supplies.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office says, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, the Divisional Commissioner Northern’s Office, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, and the Water Authority of Fiji, it will continue supporting communities experiencing reduced access to water.

NDRMO says the MLC Vatulawa has departed Suva, and the operation is part of the Government’s ongoing response to the impacts of current El Niño conditions and prolonged dry weather, particularly in vulnerable maritime communities.

It is urging communities to conserve water, use available water supplies wisely and practice responsible water management during this period of reduced rain.
