Diwali celebrations begin today with Dhanteras, an important Hindu festival that marks the start of the festive celebrations.
On Dhanteras, devotees offer prayers to Lord Dhanvantari, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber, seeking good health, wealth, prosperity and happiness for their families.
Buying gold, silver, utensils and other new items on this day is considered auspicious and is believed to bring good fortune.
Dhanteras also reminds people that true wealth is not just about money and gold, but also good health, family love and happiness in life.
According to the Shree Sanatan Dharm Brahman Sabha of Fiji, Dhanteras begins at 5pm this afternoon, while the Yam Deep Daan timing is from 5.33pm to 6.51pm.
Roop Narak Chaturdashi and Shri Hanuman Utsav will be observed tomorrow which begins at 5.17pm and ends at 5.57pm on Sunday.
Diwali will be celebrated this Sunday while public holiday will be on Monday.
The celebrations will continue with Govardhan Pooja next Tuesday, followed by Bhai Duj on Wednesday.
