Rabuka warns SODELPA and NFP Ministers over Constitution Bill vote
Cabinet ministers from SODELPA and the National Federation Party could be asked to leave their positions if their parties vote against the proposed Constitution Amendment Bill, as the Government works with 11 independent MPs and members of the Opposition to gain support for the Bill.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the Government is now working with the 11 independent MPs who have joined the Government, as well as Opposition members, to build support for the proposed changes.

He says the Government members of the Parliamentary Special Committee have been making efforts to reach consensus and carefully consider recommendations and suggestions received from the public.

Asked whether SODELPA and NFP would withdraw from the coalition, Rabuka says neither party has formally indicated that it wants to leave.

He says if the parties decide to withdraw, their members currently serving in Cabinet may also have to step down.

Rabuka also warns that if the parties vote against the Bill, he will have to ask their Cabinet ministers to leave their positions.
