Two new water tanks are expected to make a big difference to the daily lives of students and staff at Naqarawai SDA Primary School in the province of Namosi, giving them better access to clean water, particularly with dry weather conditions expected due to El Niño.
While officiating at the handover ceremony, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu highlighted the importance and timing of the donation, saying the water tanks would come in handy for the children, especially with the forecasted dry weather conditions.
Dr Lalabalavu says improving Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in schools is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases.
He says providing students with access to clean water and proper sanitation can significantly reduce the spread of communicable diseases.
He adds that this approach will also help reduce the cost of treatment in hospitals while ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for students in Namosi.
Following the handover ceremony, school staff and children wasted no time in using their new water supply and expressed their happiness and gratitude for the donation.
The donation marks a continued commitment to improving the well-being of students in rural communities.
