Ba business owner Sevanaia Levuidali says he has lodged a complaint against Minister for Fisheries Alitia Bainivalu, accusing her of cyberbullying after she posted a video of him falling off a chair while making a submission to the Joint Committee on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 202 in Ba.

Police have also confirmed to fijivillage News that Levuidali filed a report at the Ba Police Station this morning against the Minister for cyber-bullying.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Levuidali questioned why Bainivalu had shared the video on Facebook, which was taken from a Fiji Government livestream of the public consultation at the Ba Market Bure.

Levuidali says he does not understand why Bainivalu chose to post the part of the video showing him falling off the chair.

He has raised concerns about cyberbullying and referred to previous incidents involving members of the Government.

He mentioned former Minister for Women and Children and current Information Minister Lynda Tabuya and former Attorney General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, in his comments about cyberbullying within political circles.

Levuidali says he believes the incident raises questions about the use of social media by public figures.

When asked, Minister for Fisheries & Forestry Alitia Bainivalu says she did not intend to ridicule Levuidali after posting a video of him falling off a chair during a public consultation on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026 in Ba.

Bainivalu says she has been posting videos of the consultations over the past week and that Levuidali was not singled out.

She says the video also shows the part of his submission in which he was ridiculing the panel.

Bainivalu says the consultations are public hearings that allow the public to engage in different forms of discussion, adding that it was unfortunate Levuidali fell off his chair.

She says the videos are intended to show the public that the consultations are open to everyone, regardless of whether they sit, stand or speak while facing away from the panel.

Bainivalu also says people should prepare themselves well before attending the consultations.

Police have also confirmed to fijivillage News that Levuidali filed a report against the Minister at the Ba Police Station this morning.
