Sadole questions whether women have a fair opportunity in politics

Bikoca Sadole is questioning whether the political system is doing enough to give women a fair opportunity to participate in politics and leadership.

Speaking during the Women’s Practice Parliament 2026, Sadole says women make significant contributions to their families, communities and national development, but their work at the grassroots level should also be reflected in the country’s highest decision-making body.

She says women are not asking to be elected simply because they are women, but are seeking a fair opportunity to participate, compete and lead.

Sadole is calling for the consideration and implementation of temporary special measures to increase women’s political participation.

She also proposes a women’s political leadership programme to provide training in public speaking, parliamentary procedures, policy development, campaign planning and leadership, particularly for women from rural and maritime communities.

Sadole says there should also be regular public reporting on women’s political participation, progress towards agreed representation targets and action taken to address barriers.

She says women should have effective protection against intimidation and discrimination, while any changes must comply with applicable constitutional and electoral requirements.
