15-year-old Merekeleni Ratubaka of Mahatma Ghandi Memorial High School won her first gold medal today in the 1,500 junior girls final and dedicated the win to her hard-working parents.

Ratubaka, who hails from Draunivi Ra, told fijivillage Sports that the Almighty Father has been her strength and guidance as she prepared for the zone.

She says it is her first year at the junior level, and she was a bit nervous.

Ratubaka says she will rest and recover for the relay later today and the 3,000 metres tomorrow.

Ratubaka says that since it was her first year, she did not dream of winning gold, and she wants to maintain the consistency in her next race.
