It was a special day for the people of Kadavu as the Yavitu Youth Training Centre officially reopened yesterday after nine years of closure.

The centre was reopened by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru with chiefs from across Kadavu gathering to witness the occasion and celebrate the return of the facility.

Speaking at the ceremony, Saukuru thanked the landowners for allowing the Government to lease the land again and encouraged young people in Kadavu to make the most of the opportunity now available to them.

He says the Yavitu Youth Training Centre will offer various training programmes and short courses for young people across the province.

For many families, the reopening carries deep meaning.

Livia Tuvoli from Solodamu Village in Tavuki was emotional as she thanked the Minister, saying the centre has given her son a second chance.

Turaga Na Tui Yawe also expressed his appreciation, saying the day will not be forgotten by the people of Kadavu.
