Woman charged with trafficking after allegedly sending woman to Egypt
A 42-year-old woman has been charged with one count of trafficking in persons for allegedly facilitating a 51-year-old woman's travel from Fiji to Egypt for employment as a babysitter in 2022. 

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says that the woman was allegedly reckless as to whether the victim would be exploited.

Meanwhile, there have been 24 cases filed in the High Court with a total of 36 counts of non-sexual offences last month including two counts of murder, two counts of manslaughter, one count of attempted murder, one count of trafficking in persons, five counts of aggravated robbery, one count of robbery, five counts of aggravated burglary, one count of attempted aggravated burglary, five counts of theft, six counts of acts intended to cause grievous harm, one count of grievous harm, two counts of unlawful wounding, one count of arson, one count of attempted arson, one count of serious assault and one count of damaging property.

There were 37 people charged with 36 counts of non-sexual offences. Of the 37 accused persons, nine were juveniles and four were police officers.

There were 26 victims of the 36 counts of non-sexual offences.

There were two incidents where the accused and the victim were related to one another.

Four police officers were charged with acts intended to cause grievous harm. It is alleged that the officers assaulted a man during a drug raid in 2023. This matter is now remitted to the Magistrates' Court.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 55-year-old taxi driver. It is alleged that the accused stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife following a dispute over payment after a sexual encounter.

In another incident, a 21-year-old man was charged with the murder of a 30-year-old man. It is alleged that the accused struck the victim on the head with a pinch bar.

A 48-year-old man was charged with the attempted murder of a 29-year-old man. It is alleged that the accused struck the victim multiple times with a cane knife.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous harm to his 16-year-old son. It is alleged that the accused assaulted the victim and poured boiling water on him after suspecting him of smoking marijuana.

There was one incident where a 31-year-old man was charged with the attempted arson of his 25-year-old sister's house.

Three 16-year-old boys, alongside an 18-year-old man, were charged with one count of manslaughter. They are alleged to have assaulted a 33-year-old man, resulting in his death. Their co-accused, a 19-year-old man, was charged earlier with one count of murder.

In another incident, two 16-year-old boys and two 17-year-old boys were charged with aggravated burglary and theft. It is alleged that they broke into a 39-year-old man's house and stole assorted groceries and $1,240 in cash.

In another case, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, alongside an 18-year-old man, were charged with one count of aggravated robbery. The accused persons are alleged to have robbed a 26-year-old woman of her mobile phone.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm and serious assault. It is alleged that the accused swung a cane knife at a police officer and resisted arrest during a police raid.

In another incident, a 32-year-old man was charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm after he allegedly smashed a bowl on a 20-year-old man's face during an altercation.

There was one incident where a man was charged with arson, grievous harm and an act intended to cause grievous harm to a 35-year-old man. It is alleged that the accused set fire to the victim's house and assaulted the victim and another individual.

A 28-year-old man was charged with the unlawful wounding of a 47-year-old man after he allegedly threw stones at the victim.

In another incident, a 30-year-old man was charged with the unlawful wounding of a 24-year-old man after he allegedly struck the victim with a cane knife.

Cash and assorted items were stolen during the alleged aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary incidents, which involved street muggings, house, school and shop break-ins, as well as the attempted break-in of the RFMF armoury.

A 39-year-old man was charged with attempted aggravated burglary and damaging property. It is alleged that the accused attempted to break into the RFMF armoury.

There was one incident where a 40-year-old man and an 18-year-old man broke into Saint Andrews Primary School and stole assorted cables, sound systems and amplifiers.

A 30-year-old man was charged with aggravated burglary and theft. It is alleged that the accused broke into a 52-year-old man's house and stole assorted items, alcohol and the victim's vehicle, amounting to $60,547.50.
