Three mataqali from Vatulele — Nasalia, Naicokocokobalavu, and Valevale — presented a petition to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka at the Prime Minister's Office today, outlining their concerns and demands regarding proposed Vatulele Hotel Pte Limited.
The mataqali are requesting if the land could be reverted back to the landowners so they can develop the land for the sake of the future generations.
Wame Kata of Mataqali Nasalia says they visited the Prime Minister's Office to raise concerns about the dealings of the iTaukei Land Trust Board (iTLTB).
Kata says it has been 10 years since the iTLTB approached them seeking the land earmarked for the proposed hotel development by Jay Singh's Vatulele Hotels Pte Limited.
He says no development has taken place on the land during that time.Kata claims he has visited the iTLTB office on numerous occasions and says the Board assured them last year that if the development did not commence, the land would be returned to the landowners.
He says they have presented their petition to the Prime Minister, who acknowledged their concerns and told them the issues raised by the people of Vatulele have already been discussed in Parliament.Kata adds that they are also waiting to meet the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, so they can present him with a copy of the petition.
