Uciwai residents in Nadi finally have access to water after young advocate Ria Dutt raised their concerns during the Fijian Media Association's Town Hall Forum on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2026 at the Fiji National University Nasinu Campus.
Dutt, a former MP in the 2026 Fiji Women's Practice Parliament, has thanked Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica for his intervention in the Uciwai water crisis, saying residents have confirmed that they finally have water.
In her message to Kamikamica, she says she sincerely appreciates him hearing the concern and helping bring relief to the community.
Dutt says this means so much for the families who have struggled, the children whose schooling was affected, and the residents who have waited so long.
She says that as a young advocate, this reminds her that when concerns are heard and action follows, real change is possible.
During the forum, Dutt had raised concerns about Uciwai residents struggling with water supply and questioned why people were still facing problems accessing basic services.
She said people have been left without reliable water for the past 2 years despite existing Water Authority of Fiji pipelines, adding that the people are suffering.
She had also questioned the lack of contingency plans to address the shortage and raised concerns about the quality of water being delivered to residents.
The Deputy Prime Minister had asked Dutt to take his contact number and assured her that he would contact the Water Authority of Fiji Chief Executive Officer to raise the issue.
Meanwhile, WAF CEO Seru Soderberg has confirmed that WAF teams have been on the ground providing water carting services to the residents of Uciwai.
Soderberg says the teams started water carting on Friday and were going house to house to ensure residents receive water.
He says they are continuing to provide assistance to the affected community while further concerns about the water supply are being addressed.
