More than 400 villagers in Lomaloma now have access to safe and reliable water following the commissioning of two new borehole water supply projects.

While commissioning the projects, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo highlighted that the new boreholes will strengthen essential services and improve daily life by providing sustainable water supplies for schools, healthcare facilities, government offices and surrounding communities.

Vosarogo says the Adi Maopa Borehole Project will provide a dependable water supply to Adi Maopa District School, Adi Maopa Secondary School, Lomaloma Government Station and Lomaloma Hospital, directly benefiting more than 346 students, teachers, staff, patients and government workers.

He says the second project will provide clean groundwater to 49 households in Narocivo and Namalata villages, improving household access to water while strengthening resilience during periods of drought and other climate-related challenges.

The two projects represent a Government investment of $330,000, comprising $180,000 for the Adi Maopa School Borehole Project and $150,000 for the Narocivo and Namalata Village Borehole Project.

Vosarogo says the boreholes represent much more than infrastructure, as they are symbols of progress, resilience and partnership.

He says access to clean water improves public health and sanitation, supports education and healthcare services, strengthens community development, and contributes to Fiji's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The Minister also acknowledged the commitment of officers from the Mineral Resources Department, as well as the support of the management of Adi Maopa District School, Adi Maopa Secondary School, the people of Narocivo and Namalata, and community leaders whose cooperation contributed to the successful delivery of the projects.
