Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney General Siromi Turaga has directed his Permanent Secretary to provide a report regarding allegations by some remandees at the Suva Remand Centre that they were forced to eat beef and pork against their religious beliefs.
This comes after Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad summoned the Officer-in-Charge of the Suva Remand Centre following allegations.
Turaga, who is the Minister responsible for Fiji Corrections Service, says there have been no specific allegations submitted to his office, adding they now have to get used to picking things up from social media.
The Minister says they will get a report from the Officer, then through the Office of the Acting Commissioner, then to the Permanent Secretary, and finally to his office.
