Tropical Cyclone Wati has officially formed this morning near Cook Islands, but the Nadi Weather Office says the Category 1 system is not expected to directly affect Fiji at this stage.

They say the cyclone is currently moving southeast towards the Cook Islands, with forecasts indicating that it could intensify further.

While Fiji is not in the direct path of the cyclone, the Weather Office says it will continue to monitor the system and provide updates.

Communities in the Cook Islands, particularly those along the cyclone's forecast path, to remain alert and follow advisories from their local weather and emergency authorities.
