Top 10 finalists showcase ideas to boost Fiji's agriculture sector

The top 10 finalists of the Fiji Agri-Innovative Competition 2026 showcased their products, services and innovative ideas during the first day of the in-country showcase.

The finalists presented a range of agribusiness innovations aimed at strengthening food security, creating employment opportunities and supporting the growth of Fiji's agriculture sector.

The showcase provided an opportunity for participants to present their ideas to stakeholders, development partners and invited guests.

European Union Ambassador to Fiji Barbara Plinkert says the finalists demonstrate the growing innovation, creativity and commitment shaping the future of Fiji's agriculture sector.

She highlighted the European Union's support through the $25 million STODAS programme, which aims to strengthen and transform agri-food systems in Fiji and across the Pacific.

Assistant Minister for Commerce and Business Development Sachida Nand says agriculture is no longer just about traditional farming, but is now a platform for innovation, technology and business growth.

Nand says the competition continues to provide practical solutions to challenges facing farmers while creating opportunities for employment, food security and economic development.

Organisers say the event celebrates innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable agricultural development, while highlighting solutions that have the potential to contribute to Fiji's economic growth.

They say the showcase is an important part of the competition, allowing finalists to demonstrate how innovation can support the future growth and sustainability of the agriculture sector.

Among those attending were Assistant Minister Nand, Ambassador Plinkert, Director Crop Development and Extension Services Kasanita Ratu, and FAO Representative to Fiji Joan Young.

The invited guests later toured the exhibition area and viewed displays from the top 10 finalists.

The showcase will continue today with the closing session, where the winner of the Fiji Agri-Innovative Competition 2026 will be announced and awarded.
