TISA Insurance Chief Executive Officer David Ariff Chan says rugby plays a vital role in shaping communities and empowering young people as the company strengthens its partnership with the Marist Rugby Club.

Speaking during the TISA Insurance and Marist 7s jersey handover, Chan highlighted that the partnership is built on shared values of trust, unity, and community support.

He says, in Fiji, rugby is more than just a sport, describing it as a pathway for youth, a source of pride for communities, and a platform where discipline, resilience, and teamwork are developed.

Chan also acknowledges rugby legends including Waisale Serevi and Osea Kolinisau, saying their contributions continue to inspire generations of players.

He further says that the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, remains an important stage where future stars emerge and legends continue to shape the game.

Chan says the jerseys handed over today symbolise commitment, unity, and the enduring spirit of Fiji rugby.

Marist Rugby Club President Laurence Tikaram says the partnership with TISA Insurance marks a historic moment not just for the club and tournament, but for Fiji.

Speaking during the jersey handover for the Marist Sevens, Tikaram says bringing together rugby legends like Waisale Serevi and Jerry Tuwai, along with corporate support from TISA, is a significant milestone.

He says the partnership reflects the values of care, support, and standing by people in times of need.

Tikaram says the initiative sets the direction for future tournaments, bringing together past legends and current players while inspiring young athletes.

He also stresses that rugby goes beyond the field, helping build friendships, unite communities, and connect Fiji to the world.

Tikaram adds that this year’s theme, “Golden Roots, Global Wings,” reflects the strong foundation of Fiji rugby and its growing global presence.

The 50th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament will take place from this Thursday to Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium.
