Tiden Samuelu of Natabua High School has won gold at the 2026 National Schools Age Group Championship after competing in the boys’ 400 metres freestyle this morning at the Damodar Aquatic Centre.
The 16-year-old says it feels good to win and that he loves competition.
Samuelu says he had two weeks to prepare for the competition and is grateful for the support from his coach.
He says it was tough at first to balance studies and competition, but he has been managing both since Year 8.
Samuelu also thanked his parents and aunt, who are there to support and cheer him on.
Meanwhile, Henri Manulevu of Jai Narayan College also won Heat 1 of the final.
A total of 54 schools are participating in different events.
Marist Brothers High School are the defending champions in the boys’ division, while Drasa Avenue School currently hold the girls’ title.
The competition will conclude tomorrow.
