Three Police officers have been charged with the alleged murder of 24 year old Lami Police Constable Peniasi Racagi who was found dead along the Lami foreshore area on the 22nd of February this year.
The decision on charges against the three Police officers was made by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions after a reassessment of the investigation file and forensic results from overseas.
The three police officers Simione Rokosemudu, Iowane Sukanaisoro and Ilisoni Waqa have been
jointly charged with murder.
It is alleged that the three police officers murdered Constable Peniaisi Racagi in February this year following an altercation.
The three police officers will appear in court tomorrow.
We had been informed that the decision on charges against the three was made earlier today however we were requested not to release the information early as Police were still in the process of arresting the three officers.
They have now been arrested.
This is a concerning development with three Police officers allegedly murdering their own.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu had earlier said that the Police Force understands the concerns of Racagi's family and the general public about the progress of the investigation.
However, Tudravu said police are guided by established processes and systems.
He said questions about the early arrest made of two individuals in the case were also part of the investigation process.
The case against the two individuals was earlier withdrawn by the Office of the DPP.
Police had earlier stated that their investigations focused into two avenues of the officer's death and Police involvement.
